Meeting Summary with Khun Suthipong (Head of IT @Sasin)

The meeting today went well.

We identified some problems as shown:

6th floor has 2 access points
7th floor has only 1 access point at the AV room
1 access point supports up to 30 users
50 Mbps True internet doesn't come to Sasin area yet
Not sure if MAC and PC have different speed in using the Sasin internet
Sasin Mail server crashes occasionally

Solutions so far:

7 ADSL lines will be installed at Sasin
Each ADSL line will provide 3 Mbps
It is planned to be implemented next week
Students will help monitor the internet after the implementation
Sasin Mail server will move to GMAIL in the near future

 This will route you in accessing internet thru Chula’s network instead of Sasin’s network

 If Chula’s network prompts for user authentication, please use your Blackboard user name & password

Dear K.Piya & K.Opas,

Due to the slow internet access in Sasin, please set proxy to access internet thru Chula.  There may be a prompt window to authenticate, please use your Blackboard user & password.  Let me know if you still encounter the slow internet access on Chula network.

We’re on process to add more internet bandwidth by adding 7 ADSL lines from TRUE.

Today I had a chat with Ajarn Thiti about the internet.

The initial solutions are:

1) Set proxy on students laptop to connect with the 1gbps lease line of Chula.
This will make the internet faster.

2) Buy more independent adsl routers.

3) Have a lease line dedicated to Sasin.

Dear K. Piya and K. Panote (cc. K. Opie),

 

I have received your letter about the IT environment at Sasin today. I have raised this issue at the MBA committee meeting today and we have discussed this issue. As we have also received same complaints from MBA 2010 about IT two weeks ago, we decided to organize the session to discuss this issue with IT section of Sasin and some of student's representatives, in order to share the problems which you have been facing with. As we have already communicated with them two weeks ago, the IT team has been aware of some of the issues and some of them will be solved accordingly.

 

As we (including me) are not the specialist of IT, the MBA committee agreed to set up the meeting with some of you and IT team.

 

K. Gao will arrange the date and time for the informal session with you and the Head of IT. So please contact her for more details.
